He Moved His Lover In I Moved My Money Out Chapter 18
All seven members of the arts center committee appeared on the video call.
The man chairing the meeting smiled at me.
“Nora, we’re willing to reinstate you immediately as lead designer.”
“And the reason for the suspension?”
His smile faltered.
“The committee was acting on incomplete information and made a temporary decision out of concern for project risk.”
I shared Richard’s deposition transcript to the screen.
“What you received wasn’t information. It was an order from a donor.”
One of the committee members frowned.
“That description is excessive. In any case, we’re already willing to bring you back.”
“I’m not coming back.”
The other side of the call went quiet.
The chair clearly hadn’t expected me to refuse.
“This is one of Boston’s most important public projects. If you walk away now, how do you think the industry will see that?”
“They’ll understand from your public correction.”
I uploaded the document my lawyer had drafted into the meeting system.
Rescind the suspension decision, publicly acknowledge that I had no performance issue whatsoever, pay contractual damages for the suspension period, and revise the donor recusal policy.
Miss even one of those, and I would sue.
One committee member gave a cold laugh. “Nora, your firm in Portland has only existed for a few days. Are you sure you want to make an enemy of this entire committee?”
I didn’t argue. I just had my lawyer play the final three minutes of Richard’s deposition.
“We thought that if she lost the project, she would go back and talk to Graham.”
