He Moved His Lover In I Moved My Money Out Chapter 23

Eleanor’s face flushed, then went pale.

I closed the agreement and slid it back across the table.

“Please leave.”

She didn’t take it.

“Nora, no one on the East Coast is going to want to offend the Whitmore family. Do you really think moving to Portland means you can start over?”

I pressed the switch for the blinds on the wall.

Beyond the glass, a dozen designers were discussing a new project. On the model table sat the community library proposal my firm had just won.

“It’s not what I think.”

I looked at her.

“I already have.”

After Eleanor left, Graham’s lawyer requested a remote settlement conference.

When Graham appeared on the screen, Eleanor clearly hadn’t made it back to the airport yet.

“Nora, that agreement wasn’t my idea.”

“But your signature is on it.”

He lowered his head.

“My mother said that only if the investigations were stabilized would the family let me make it up to you.”

“So once again, you’re using someone else’s decision to excuse yourself.”

Graham lifted his head, his eyes bloodshot.

“Tell me what I have to do to make this end.”

My lawyer read out the conditions.

Acknowledge that the six hundred thousand dollars came from my premarital inheritance, return it in full, and pay the audit costs.

Publicly correct the claim that I was unable to perform my duties because of family circumstances.

Relinquish any dispute over the portion of the Newport property created by my personal funds.

After the divorce, cease all contact permanently.

With each line, his face grew paler.

On the other end, Eleanor’s lawyer cut in. “The Whitmore family will not agree to a public admission.”

Graham was silent for a few seconds. Then he picked up a pen.

“I agree.”

“Graham!” the lawyer barked.

He didn’t stop.

His hand shook the entire time he signed.

“I’ve already lost her.” He stared at the papers. “What else are you still trying to make me preserve?”

The other side of the screen fell completely silent.

After my lawyer collected the signed pages, she reminded him, “A private settlement will not stop regulatory investigations already in progress.”

Graham closed his eyes.

This time, no one could press pause for him.
