He Moved His Lover In I Moved My Money Out Chapter 28

Before the Newport property could be sold, I had to do one final site confirmation.

It was the off-season, and the coast was quiet.

When the construction manager opened the front door for me, the house had already been emptied.

“All the custom furniture was handled according to the asset inventory,” he said. “The silverware was returned to Mrs. Whitmore as well.”

I nodded and went upstairs alone.

The linen-gray curtains were still in the master bedroom.

The sea-blue walls in the children’s room hadn’t changed.

The choices that had once made me believe I was building a future now remained only as design details in a property waiting to be sold.

By the fireplace, the decorative panel of the memory box had been removed.

After the copper plaque was taken as evidence, it had left behind a pale, square mark on the wall.

The manager stopped me at the door.

“Ms. Rothman, there’s one more thing.”

He handed me an old envelope.

The handwriting on it was mine.

It was the wedding vows I had originally intended to place in the memory box.

“Mr. Whitmore’s lawyer sent it over,” the manager said. “He said that before the plaque was installed, this letter was taken out and kept in the study at Beacon Hill.”
