The shutter clicked three times in rapid succession as the hospital lobby fell silent.
When Nathan saw the Moreau Foundation insignia on the card, the arrogance on his face vanished. The foundation didn’t control any major luxury conglomerates, but it held long-term contracts with more than twenty of Europe’s top ateliers. Cross had been chasing Julien for two years, hoping to secure an exclusive haute couture showcase.
Grandfather narrowed his eyes. “One of the Moreaus?”
“Mr. Whitmore.” Julien inclined his head slightly. “Your granddaughter helped me save three ateliers in Paris. I apologize for my late arrival.”
Adrian finally spoke. “Clara has never been married.”
“You checked?” Julien asked.
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
Sabine seized his sleeve, her fingertips digging into the fabric.
I looked up at Julien. His expression was calm, but the silver tip of a tailor’s pencil peeked out from his cuff. He only carried it when he was tense during a negotiation.
He had flown eight hours from Paris and come straight here from the airport without even changing his coat.
