Leaving At Last Chapter 08

Leaving At Last Chapter 08

“—I was afraid you’d go straight to the director and resign.”

“Blair is different.”

“She’s a nurse. One small mistake wouldn’t ruin her career.”

“I just didn’t expect the patient’s family to find out.”

The moment she heard that, Talia shot to her feet, her eyes red.

“Briar, Blair cares about her job more than anything.”

“She hasn’t made a single mistake in all these years.”

“After what you did, how am I supposed to face her ever again?”

Neither of them spoke after that.

On his way back to his office, Briar’s steps were unsteady, and he nearly stumbled.

He opened his chat history with me and scrolled up, message by message.

[Briar, the kitten at the coffee shop downstairs looks like you.]

[That patient was second-guessing me.]

[But I talked him around.]

[The meatloaf in the cafeteria was awful today.]

[Don’t get it later.]

No matter how busy she was, Blair had always found time to send him little messages.

Childish, silly things.

And even at her most exhausted, she would grit her teeth and push through her shift.

That was the Blair who had first drawn him in.

But now, he was the one who had pushed her away.

Over the past month, aside from a few necessary work-related texts, she had already stopped reaching out.

And now, she wouldn’t even give him a single word.

Briar went into the restroom and splashed cold water on his face, struggling to calm the panic rising in his chest.

It was okay.
