Shattered Glass Unbroken Soul Chapter 13

I didn’t stop walking.

The pedestrian light turned green.

Elias wrapped his hand around mine. His grip was steady and firm, but he didn’t pull me or force my decision.

I stepped off the curb and walked across the street. Step by step.

Desperate, frantic footsteps echoed behind me. Then I heard Piper pull him back.

“Stop chasing her, Drew. Don’t make yourself look any more pathetic.”

Drew’s voice shattered in the biting wind.

“I just want to look at her.”

I never looked back.

Across the street, Elias pulled the passenger door open for me.

A blast of warm air wrapped around me the second I sat down.

I settled into the seat and pulled my sunglasses off. My fingers were still tightly gripping the estate documents.

The paperwork for the old house was finished.

The people of my past were left out in the snow.

I was finally completely cut off from my past.

The night we flew back to Iceland, the aurora exploded in the sky.

Massive ribbons of vivid green light swept across the darkness. It looked like someone had unfurled a scroll that had been kept rolled up in silence for years.

Elias and I moved into a log cabin right next to a glass greenhouse.

A fire roared in the hearth. He was simmering mulled wine in the kitchen. He garnished the rim of my glass with a slice of orange.

“No cinnamon.” He handed me the mug. “You said you hated it last time.”

I took it and smiled.

“Your memory is way too good.”

“It’s not my memory.” He sat down beside me. “It’s just that your preferences shouldn’t be treated like trivial garbage.”
