He Watched Me Freeze Now He Begs For My Return Chapter 15
Caleb would probably never understand that we didn’t end when that video played at the gala, or even when I boarded the train to Chicago.
We ended on that blizzard night.
I was so cold I could barely hold my phone, begging him to come get me, and he told me to first admit defeat to Paige.
From that moment on, nothing he did mattered.
I thought once I blocked every way he could contact me, he would disappear.
But one evening, leaving work, I saw him standing on the corner.
In Chicago.
Caleb had lost weight. His face was stubbled, his eyes hollow, and there was a suitcase by his feet, as if he’d been waiting a long time.
The moment he saw me, he rushed over.
“Nora, I’m sorry. I know I was wrong. I’ve thought about you every day for months.”
He reached for my arm. “Please, just give me one more chance.”
I stepped back, out of his reach.
“Go back to Denver.”
He froze.
I looked at him, my voice level.
“Coming all the way here doesn’t change anything. Caleb, this isn’t making amends. This is harassment.”
