His Fake Proposal Led Me To My Real Husband Chapter 12
Mrs. Westbrook turned toward Mason and shrieked, “Mason! Are you just going to let her speak to me like this?”
Mason had always thought I didn’t know.
I had only stayed silent because I loved him.
Standing at the side of the stage, Mason’s lips moved.
“Mom.”
His voice was hoarse.
“Leave.”
“What did you say?”
“I said, please leave.”
Mrs. Westbrook’s fingers trembled with rage. Just as she was about to say more, Julian stepped to my side.
“Mrs. Westbrook.” His tone remained polite.
“There’s something you may not know. Twenty years ago, my grandfather and Rebecca’s grandfather were already hoping we’d choose each other one day. Whenever our families got together, they used to joke about it.”
“My mother also asked Mrs. Walker long ago if, should Rebecca be willing, she would support our union.”
Julian looked at her, perfectly calm.
“So it wasn’t Rebecca who spent four years begging your family to accept her.”
“It was the Cavendish family who waited many years for her to be willing to walk toward us.”
Mrs. Westbrook’s face went from a sickly green to a dead, chalky white. Her lips trembled, but no words came out.
Julian had already looked away.
He took a platinum ring from his pocket and held it out to me.
“Forget the old one. Put on a new one.”
I looked down at the ring, took it, and slipped it onto the ring finger of my left hand.
It fit perfectly.
Julian smiled faintly.
“Shall we finish getting engaged?”
I nodded.
Venue security came over and escorted Mrs. Westbrook out of the ballroom.
When the doors closed behind her, the lights settled back onto the stage.
The host stood to one side, the cue cards in his hand damp with sweat.
I released Julian’s arm, walked to the podium, and picked up the microphone.
People were still murmuring below the stage.
My mother had sat back down at the first table, her eyes red.
“Family, friends,” I said. My voice wasn’t loud, but the sound system carried it to every corner of the room.
“There was an incident today, but this engagement is not canceled.”
I paused.
“For the past four years, I spent a long time loving someone, and a long time trying to prove I was worthy of being treated with sincerity.”
“Today, I realized I don’t need to prove that.”
“Who gets to enter my life should be my decision.”
As I spoke, I calmly scanned every table of guests. My gaze passed over Mason without stopping.
“Thank you all for staying to witness my choice.”
“Please enjoy your dinner.”
I handed the microphone back to the host and turned around.
Julian was already standing in the center of the stage, holding out his hand to me.
I walked over and placed my hand in his.
This time, my little finger wasn’t trembling.
I stood beside him, my shoulders and back straightening instinctively.Â
