I was touching up my makeup in the restroom when I heard two women talking outside the door.

“Yeah. Turned right around and walked into the Cavendish family. God knows what kind of strings she pulled.”
“Julian’s the only son, and he was willing to take Mason’s leftovers.”
The door opened.
A woman in a dark green wrap dress walked in. An old gold bracelet on her wrist knocked lightly against the doorframe.
The two women outside fell silent.
It was Eleanor Cavendish, Julian’s mother.
“Finished?”

“If you are, then leave. There’s a car waiting outside to take you home.”
