He Gave My Ring To Her Now He Wears His Regret Chapter 05

When I dragged my suitcase out of the resort, the sound of laughter still drifted down from the terrace.

Nico probably thought I was doing what I always did—hiding somewhere, waiting for him to come find me.

My phone buzzed. An iMessage from him.

> Done with your tantrum? Come back.

A few minutes later, another one arrived.

> Alessia’s drunk.

> Where did you put the painkillers you brought?

I stared at the two messages for a moment, then powered off my phone.

I had already left.

And the first thing on his mind was still medicine for Alessia.

By the time I got to the airport, there were only forty minutes until boarding.

I checked in and dropped off my last suitcase.

For seven years, I had imagined my wedding to Nico a thousand times.

The dress, the invitations, the color of the flowers.

I had even finalized the seating chart a full year in advance.

His family, his friends, and Alessia.

I had placed her at one of the tables closest to ours.

Because I had truly believed she was my best friend.

The boarding announcement echoed through the terminal.

Before standing up, I took the plain gold band—the one he’d given me before the engagement ring—and left it at the airport’s lost and found.

While logging the item, the staff member asked, “Are you sure this isn’t a valuable?”

I looked at the simple ring.

“Yes.”

It wasn’t worth much anymore.

The moment Nico took it off my hand and put it on Alessia’s, it had lost all its meaning.
