The Stolen Savior: He Loved The Wrong Sister Chapter 06
Nora’s head roared. She stumbled back a step, her vision going dark at the edges.
No wonder all these years, no matter how she dieted, no matter how hard she tried—even eating just one meal a day—her weight kept climbing.
No wonder both her parents and all her relatives were tall and slender. No wonder there was no obesity gene in her family, yet she’d become absurdly overweight.
Camille had been drugging her this entire time.
Drugging her with fat-inducing hormones, turning her into a fat girl for over a decade.
Her insecurity, her helplessness, the years of mockery and humiliation—all of it was Camille’s doing.
Old hatred and new rage surged up together. Nora had reached her limit. She stormed into the kitchen and slapped Camille hard across the face.
But one slap clearly wasn’t enough. Before Camille could react, Nora struck again with the back of her hand.
She slapped her over and over—more than a dozen times—before finally stopping.
She stopped not because she was tired, but because Lucian had come home.
He grabbed her wrist and glared at her furiously. “Nora, what the hell is wrong with you?”
Tears streamed down Nora’s face instantly. Trembling, she opened her mouth to speak. But before she could, Camille jumped in first, tearfully playing the victim. “Lucian, don’t blame Nora. She’s been through so much these past few days. It’s only natural she’d be upset.”
“If slapping me a few times makes her feel better, then let her. It’s fine. I’ve been hit my whole life. I’m used to it.”
As she spoke, Camille shot a series of signals at the old housekeeper.
The woman had been with Camille since she was five, left behind by Camille’s mother. She’d never shown loyalty to anyone else. She immediately pulled out the pills Camille had just given her and spoke up with feigned righteous indignation. “Mr. Hawthorne, I can’t stay silent any longer. Camille has suffered too much. I have to tell you the truth.”
“The moment Miss Hartley came home, she gave me these strange pills and told me to put them in Camille’s dinner. She said they wouldn’t kill anyone, just make Camille gain weight.”
“I didn’t want to do it, but Miss Hartley threatened me. She said if I refused, she’d make sure I couldn’t get a single letter of recommendation in this city.”
In that instant, Nora felt as though all the strength had been drained from her body.
Tears falling, she looked at Lucian. “Do you believe them? Look at me. Now look at Camille. Who’s been drugging who—can you really not see it?”
Lucian’s gaze flickered, clearly wavering for a moment.
But then Camille raised a hand to her swollen face, a picture of suppressed pain, too afraid to make a sound.
That single gesture tipped the scales in her favor.
“Nora, why do you blame Camille for everything?” Lucian’s voice turned cold. “You didn’t get fat overnight. You’ve been heavy since you were a child. Instead of looking at yourself, you’re always paranoid, accusing Camille of drugging you.”
“Do you really think she could have been drugging you since you were a child, all the way into adulthood? You’re being absurd.”
Her tears had run dry. Nora couldn’t even cry anymore.
The truth would have been so easy to verify. A simple blood test to check for those hormones, and everything would come to light.
But Lucian couldn’t even be bothered to investigate. He just took Camille’s side without question.
“Forget it.” Nora turned away, numb. “I gave up on you believing me a long time ago.”
In that moment, the despair in Nora’s eyes made Lucian’s heart twinge unexpectedly.
Instinctively, he reached out to grab her.
But Camille caught his hand and pressed it to her face. “Lucian, my face really hurts.”
So Lucian never reached Nora.Â
