After hanging up, she raised an eyebrow at me.
“Mr. Liam will be here soon. Some people need to learn that it will never be their turn.”
I ignored her, swirling the champagne in my glass.
Perfect.
If she hadn’t made that call, I would have had to find a way to get Liam here myself.
Half an hour later, the ballroom doors opened.
Liam walked in, clearly having rushed over.
Several of Serena’s assistants immediately flocked to him.
“Mr. Liam, are you here for Serena?”
Liam’s voice was a little hoarse.
“Yes. Where is she?”
As he spoke, his gaze swept the ballroom.
The next second, he saw me.
He stopped short.
Then he changed course, walking straight for me.
He moved so fast he nearly collided with a guest.
I stood up.
The moment he reached me, before he could say a word, I acted.
I turned, took a fresh glass of champagne from a passing waiter’s tray, and walked directly onto the stage, where a guest was mid-speech. I took the microphone from the host.
The entire ballroom fell silent.
