We Died So He Could Love Chapter 02

We Died So He Could Love Chapter 02

My screams echoed down the corridor, but the technician clung to his belief in that so-called “safe” setting.

Urine, blood, and the smell of burning flesh filled the room with a suffocating stench.

People passing by covered their noses and hurried on. No one stopped.

Just before I lost consciousness, my mind flashed back eight years.

I opened my eyes to a face that had once been my whole world.

“Hey. I’m Kieran Vitale. Sophomore, music major.”

“I saw you pass out on the lawn and carried you to the campus clinic.”

“The doctor said you’ll be fine.”

The memory of his young face made my eyes sting.

The Kieran I first knew would have carried me on his back all the way to the campus clinic.

The Kieran of today had personally strapped me to this table for 101 rounds of electric shock.

I could hardly believe they were the same person.

We were together for two years in college.

Back then, Kieran took such good care of me that I never worried about a thing.

He cooked for me, did my laundry, even washed my underwear by hand.

After graduation, we got married at City Hall.

During that time, we were inseparable.

But Carla’s return to the country shattered everything.

On our first wedding anniversary, Carla called, claiming she hadn’t eaten all day and asking if she could come over.

Kieran dropped everything to go pick her up.

After she arrived, Carla only picked at a salad before pulling Kieran into a long conversation about their childhood. I sat beside them like a stranger.

What was supposed to be my anniversary dinner with Kieran became their private trip down memory lane.

On my birthday, Carla had another episode.

One phone call, and Kieran, who had been on his way to my party, turned the car around and went straight to her.

He was gone for three days.

It happened again and again.

I endured it.

Kieran spent more and more time with Carla.

I could put up with it for a month, but not for the rest of my life.

Eventually, we had a huge fight, and I moved out of our apartment.

When Kieran realized I had actually left, he started showing up, begging for forgiveness.

On the first day, he brought flowers.

The next day, an expensive handbag was delivered to my door.

He came to me again and again, promising he would change.

I still loved him, so I forgave him.

But I never imagined that forgiving him then would lead me to this.

After we reconciled, he was more careful for a while.

But on the third day, I saw him holding Carla’s hand outside an AMC, buying movie tickets.

In that moment, I was done forgiving him.

That night, I asked for a divorce.

But he didn’t seem to care. He went on living exactly as he pleased.

It wasn’t until I discovered I was pregnant that he came home, but only for the sake of the child.

His heart was no longer mine.

His presence meant little to me by then.

I just wanted to have my baby safely.

I never imagined a single Instagram post could trigger a breakdown so severe she’d try to jump off a roof.

All I’d posted was a simple photo of my pregnant stomach. The caption was just one line:

“Mommy can’t wait to meet you.”

I never mentioned her. Not once.

But in Kieran’s eyes, it was all my fault.

The thought sharpened my fading consciousness.
