He Married Another So I Accepted My Arranged Husband Chapter 16

The guards closed in around him.

Desmond stepped forward, shielding me with his body, but he didn’t speak for me. His eyes stayed on my face, waiting for my decision.

I took a few steps back, putting more distance between myself and Salvatore.

I didn’t want to speak to him.

Of course, the hurt was still a fresh memory, but the real reason was simpler.

There was no point.

To me, he was already a stranger.

When Desmond saw me turn my face away, he gave a subtle signal to the guards.

Several men moved forward and began to drag Salvatore outside.

Suddenly, he lunged, grabbing the edge of the carpet, trying to pull himself closer to me.

His fingertips were scraped raw, leaving bloody streaks on the pale rug.

“Indigo, you really won’t forgive me?” he cried.

“Those six years… you can really just let them go?”

I didn’t look back.

Not because Desmond was standing beside me, and not to punish Salvatore.

Those six years had ended the moment I left the ring, snapped the SIM card, withdrew my system authorizations, and signed a new marriage certificate.

Desmond’s hand brushed mine, a light touch.

I gave him a small, reassuring smile.

“I’m fine. Let’s go.”

The rest of the wedding went smoothly.

We greeted the witnesses table by table and watched as the guests gradually departed.

That night, I finally asked the question again.

“Can you tell me now?”

“Why did you choose me?”

“We didn’t even know each other.”

Desmond opened a drawer and took out an old photograph.

“Who says we didn’t?”

“We met when we were children.”
