The Underboss Voted No So I Chose A New Life Chapter 22
Cameron looked at me.
“If you don’t want to take it, I can talk to head office.”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
He paused.
“You just got back from there.”
“I went to New York for work. Him managing a hotel is work, too.”
I scrolled down another page.
The proposal was detailed. The old railway stations, city walking routes, and the hotel’s historic architecture were all marked separately. Even the interview time slots were designed to avoid guest check-in and check-out peaks.
There wasn’t a single personal note anywhere in the file.
Only one line at the very bottom.
*If the project lead prefers to avoid direct interaction, the hotel’s deputy manager can handle all coordination.*
I closed the page.
“There’s no need to avoid him.”
Three months later, I returned to New York with the project team.
Hadrian was waiting for us outside the hotel meeting room.
He wore an ordinary dark gray suit, with the hotel’s name badge pinned to his chest.
No bodyguards. No one opening doors for him.
He shook Cameron’s hand first. Only then did he look at me.
“Editor Greco.”
“Manager Bellini.”
Something shifted in his eyes, and he stepped aside to let us in.
Halfway through the meeting, the door suddenly opened.
Leo walked in carrying two coffees, as casually as if he were walking into Hadrian’s office years ago.
“I heard Mireille was back. Thought I’d stop by.”
Hadrian closed the file in front of him.
