The Underboss Voted No So I Chose A New Life Chapter 29

The email had been sent after my flight to Austin landed.

I had accepted the transfer before I saw those seven votes.

And before that, there was the record from three months earlier, when my editor-in-chief first offered me the position and I turned it down for the wedding.

Every timestamp was there in the original email chain.

I handed my phone to her.

“Look carefully.”

Sarah scrolled upward, page by page, and the color slowly drained from her face.

I had chosen the marriage first.

Hadrian and all of them were the ones who had pushed that choice away, inch by inch.

“Even so, you could have told me,” she stammered.

“I asked all of you at the long table.”

“That was just one trip.”

“To you, it was.”

I took back my phone.

“To me, that was the last time I asked.”

Her lips trembled.

“I’m your sister.”

“And I paid your tuition. And every time you didn’t choose me, I made excuses for you.”

“Now I don’t.”

Sarah reached out as if to grab me.

A hotel security guard stepped forward.

I didn’t let him touch her. I just said, “Please have her leave.”

Hadrian came down the hall toward us.

Sarah looked at him as if rescue had arrived.

“Hadrian, you’re really going to let her do this to me?”

He stopped a few steps away.

“This is her project. She has the right to decide who stays on site.”

“You never used to say that.”

“Then I was wrong.”

Sarah looked at him, then at me.

At last, she understood that no one was going to keep calling her abstention a form of protection.

She crumpled the printout of the email into her bag and turned away.
