My Guardian Married My Sister But I’m His Alpha Chapter 47

Her phone screen was still lit.

A new message from Griffin.

*Did she come to see you?*

Chiara didn’t answer.

She turned the phone facedown on the cabinet.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to ask.

It was that she suddenly didn’t know what was left to ask.

Was it true that he had chosen Francesca?

Why wouldn’t he talk?

What was this last, unfinished business?

She had asked these questions too many times.

And every time, the answer was silence.

Every time, it was, *Give me a little more time.*

Every time, he turned and walked away just as they reached the precipice.

A profound exhaustion washed over Chiara.

It was as if the string that had been pulled taut inside her for years had finally snapped the moment Francesca said, *He chose me.*

Who he had chosen.

Whether he had been forced.

Whether it had all been her father’s plan.

None of that mattered right now.

What mattered was the one thing he refused to talk about.

If he wouldn’t tell her, then she would find out for herself. She was a Moretti. She had a right to the truth.

Chiara picked up her phone and called Sterling.

He answered on the second ring.

“What is it?”

“I have a question for you,” Chiara said. “The thing you were looking for in Paris—was it just my father’s letter?”

There was a brief silence on the other end.

“No. At the final meeting before your father’s death, a man named Anthony Russo voted against an overseas deal. The name might not mean anything to you, but Francesca knows him.”

He paused. “The week before you came back to New York, Francesca met with Anthony in the healer’s wing.”

Francesca again.

“Sterling, come with me to Moretti Holdings tomorrow.”

“Are you sure? That’s Griffin’s territory.”

“I’m sure.”

Chiara took the steel ring from her pocket and set it on the entry cabinet, next to the soup.

“I’m not waiting for him anymore. I’ll uncover the truth about Nightfall myself.”
