The Wedding Game That Cost Him Everything Chapter 37

Sierra came to the hospital to see me once after that.

Not as a patient.

She wore a sharply tailored suit, and when she walked, her prosthetic was almost impossible to notice.

As soon as she came in, she put a copy of the ruling, already made public among the Families, onto my desk.

“I won.”

She didn’t smile when she said it.

I poured her a glass of water.

“Congratulations.”

“I thought I’d be happy.”

Sierra lowered her eyes to her leg.

“But the moment the result came down, all I felt was tired.”

“That’s normal.”

I sat down across from her.

“A ruling can prove they were wrong. It can’t give you back the version of yourself from before you were hurt.”

She looked up at me.

After a while, she finally smiled.

“Are you always this direct?”

“I’m a doctor.”

“Are all doctors like that?”

“I am.”

Her smile widened.

It was the first time we had spoken without it being about Tucker and Sloane.

She told me Tucker’s parents had indeed handed the alliance seat he once controlled over to her.

Not because they wanted her as a daughter-in-law, and not as compensation.

She had earned that chair at the three-party table with the results she’d produced for the Bellandi Family over the years.

“They used to look down on my Family,” Sierra said. “Now they’re very polite.”

“You don’t have to forgive them.”

“Of course not.”

She lifted her glass.

“Cooperation is cooperation. Debts are debts.”

I liked that.
