The Wedding Game That Cost Him Everything Chapter 42
I stopped in the doorway.
Peace thought I had forgotten something and came running out after me with my coat.
“What’s wrong?”
“Someone doesn’t like Safe Return.”
She frowned. “Why?”
Sierra hadn’t answered that directly, either.
Instead, she read me the proposal.
If it passed, anyone under Family protection would be barred from donating to Safe Return, and hospitals, temporary housing, and safety agencies within the alliance’s sphere of influence would no longer be allowed to work with the program.
The stated reason was elegant enough.
To prevent outside organizations from interfering with internal protection, and to avoid Family members being induced to leave the established order.
When she finished, I asked, “Who drafted the proposal?”
“Tucker’s father.”
There was a trace of coldness in Sierra’s voice.
“You tell the injured to go to the hospital first, and the endangered to leave first. But in their eyes, whether someone gets to leave or not should be decided by the Family before anyone else.”
I glanced at the time.
Ten minutes left before surgery.
“Send me the voting procedure.”
“You’re not going to ask which side I’ll be on?”
