The Wedding Game That Cost Him Everything Chapter 44
“We don’t want to make this ugly.”
“The proposal has already been submitted.”
I sat in an empty conference room at the hospital.
“That’s a line I should be saying to you.”
Her expression tightened.
Tucker’s father threw a printed copy of Safe Return’s rules onto the table.
“You accept requests for help from Family members. You also accept their donations. But you refuse to let the Families know who they are.”
“Applicants only need to provide rescue records, hospital records, or credible records from a safety agency.”
I spoke evenly.
“The rules have stated that since the day this program was founded.”
“Family protection has its own rules.”
“Is dumping people on an island with no signal also part of those rules?”
The room went silent for a beat.
Tucker’s mother looked away.
His father said coldly, “That matter has already been adjudicated. You took Tucker’s assets, and you received compensation.”
“That money is already gone.”
“Then shut down the American service point.”
At last, he said what he really wanted.
Close the service point. Remove every public reference involving the three Families. From now on, stop accepting anyone under Family protection.
In exchange, he would withdraw the proposal.
I asked, “The Moretti Family publicly confirmed those assets belonged to me, correct?”
“Public confirmation can be revoked.”
Tucker’s mother whipped around to look at him.
I smiled.
“Then can the compensation Sierra received, the compensation Sloane’s victims received, and every ruling of the three-party committee also be revoked whenever the Family head is unhappy?”
He didn’t answer immediately.
But those few seconds of silence were enough.
“I’ll see you in seven days.”
I cut the video.
Chloe called immediately afterward.
She already knew about the proposal.
“What are they going to do next?”
“Make everyone who works with us afraid.”
“So what do we do?”
I opened the first policy file Safe Return had ever used.
“We make everyone see exactly what it is we do.”
