After I Saved Him My CEO Said We Were Strangers Chapter 05
Two days later, Reed flew to the European branch for work.
Sophia went with him.
Over the next month, I was consumed with handing off my duties, and I never saw him again.
It turned out that if I really let go, we could be completely cut off from each other’s lives.
With three days left in my transition period, I took all my remaining vacation time.
On my last day, I packed the hundred-thousand-dollar check and every gift he had ever given me into a cardboard box and left it with his assistant.
The assistant’s expression was a complicated mix of pity and confusion.
He probably never imagined that a girl from the Chicago suburbs could get tangled up for two years with a man like Reed Blake.
My flight was that night.
I went back to my apartment and started to pack.
As I was clearing out the back of my closet, an old diary fell out.
The cover was worn, the corners faded to white.
I opened it to the first page.
The date was from September, nine years ago.
“Today in the school auditorium, he gave a speech on stage. The lights were too bright, and I couldn’t see his face clearly, but I remembered his name. Reed Blake.”
Reed always thought we met for the first time when I was an intern at his company.
He never knew that since I was eighteen, I had been slowly, quietly walking toward him.
This diary held all the unspoken words of my youth.
There was no reason to keep it now.
I tossed it in the trash.
From this moment on, Reed Blake and I were over.
