He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 05
Tessa’s face went pale. She picked up the broken bookshelf and carried it into the kitchen.
“I’ll fix it right now, okay?”
She set the board on the counter and reached for a bottle of wood glue. Marisol stepped forward to stop her, tracing her fingertip slowly along the joinery near the crack.
“Don’t touch it again.”
Then she looked at Daniel.
“Claire’s father gave this to her for Christmas last year. He spent two months making every joint by hand. There isn’t another one like it.”
The glue bottle froze in Tessa’s hand.
“So no, you can’t just buy a new one and call it even.”
Marisol sat down in the living room, took out her phone, and held up the lock screen for Daniel to see.
“Now, explain this. Why is the co-owner of this house listed as a guest whose access expires in twenty-one days?”
Daniel frowned. “It’s just a settings issue. We’re family.”
“Do you know what ‘guest’ means legally?” Marisol stared at him. “It means the owner can ask her to leave at any time. You set your wife up as a guest. Were you planning to throw her out?”
Tears streamed down my face.
Only then did I realize that the word *guest* was crueler than the argument itself.
