He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 09

Daniel lowered his voice. “Tomorrow, go talk to Tessa. Apologize or calm her down or something. Right now, she feels like an outsider.”

I almost laughed.

The person with permanent door access and the master bedroom felt like an outsider.

Meanwhile I, the co-owner, had twenty-one days.

“I’m not going.”

“Claire—”

“I did nothing wrong, and I’m not apologizing. She already has you to comfort her. She doesn’t need me.”

Daniel stared at me, the impatience in his eyes slowly rising to the surface.

“You weren’t always like this. We’re married, Tessa is family, too—what’s the point of drawing lines this hard between family?”

“Did you draw the line clearly with your daughter?”

I met his gaze.

“What has she paid for? Rent? Utilities? Food? She moved into the main house—what did you promise her, and what did you ask me?”

Daniel opened his mouth, then his tone softened unexpectedly.

“She’s my only daughter. She’s raising Noah alone. I can’t just ignore that. She cried today because she feels guilty that you don’t have anywhere to stay.”

“That’s her misunderstanding.”

I pulled the door open, making it clear the conversation was over.

“She didn’t do this to me.”

Daniel seemed to exhale, as if he thought I was finally about to give in.

I looked at him and said, one word at a time,

“You did.”

“You put us in this position.”

“You chose this.”
