He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 27

The dishes rattled.

Tessa’s eyes immediately filled with tears.

“I knew she couldn’t stand Noah and me! If she hates us this much, why did she ever agree to let us come in the first place?”

She covered her face and started crying. Daniel’s mother hurried to hold her. Several relatives began criticizing me all at once, and Noah, frightened by the shouting, started crying, too.

The whole dining room dissolved into chaos.

I sat back down, lifted my water glass, and took a slow sip.

After calming his mother, Daniel turned back and saw me sitting there without moving. He looked at me as if I were a stranger.

“You’re just going to sit there?”

“This is your party.”

He lowered his voice. “Tessa is crying her eyes out.”

“Then comfort her.”

Every time there had been a conflict between Daniel and his daughter, I had been the one to clean up after it. Now, I was simply handing the responsibility back.

I set down the glass, picked up my bag, and headed for the door.

Daniel immediately chased after me and blocked the entrance to the living room.

“Claire, you can’t just blow things up and then walk away every time.”

“Dinner’s over. Time for you to honor our deal.”

I pulled the paperwork from my bag, along with a pen, and set both on the entry table.

“Sign.”

He stared at the documents, his face dark.

“What exactly are you asking me to sign?”
