He Locked Me Out Now He’s Begging Me Back Chapter 50

“Yes.”

I gave her my lawyer’s contact information.

That afternoon, the same set of documents lay spread across the long table in my lawyer’s office.

After reading Tessa’s post, my lawyer wrote three items on a yellow sticky note.

*Delete.*

*Correct.*

*Stop contacting my employer and address.*

“We’ll send a formal letter first,” she said. “If she refuses, we’ll seek an injunction and pursue damages for defamation.”

“I don’t need a private apology.”

My lawyer looked up at me.

“She needs to correct it where she said it.”

My lawyer nodded and stuck the note to the front of the file.

As I was leaving, Daniel called.

I was about to reject the call, but my lawyer said, “Take it. Put him on speaker.”

Daniel’s voice came through fast, breathless, almost tripping over itself.

“Claire, Tessa was emotional. She regrets posting it. Don’t have a lawyer go after her. She can’t handle a lawsuit right now.”

“Has she deleted it?”

“Not yet. She says if she deletes it, it’ll make her look guilty.”

“Then she does not regret it.”

“She just wants people to understand how hard things have been for her.” Daniel lowered his voice. “You already got the money from the house and bought your new condo. Why keep picking at a few words?”

I looked at the screenshot of the lock permissions on the table.

Back when I had twenty-one days of access left, he had called that a small thing, too.

Now Tessa had carried her lies to my workplace, and he was still telling me not to make a big deal of it.

“Daniel, you can keep taking responsibility for her if you want.”

“What does that mean?”

“The letter is being sent to you, too.”

He went silent at once.

“Why me?”

“Because every lie in that post started with a promise you made.”
