The DNA Test That Backfired Chapter 10

I stared at him.

“You even said I planned all of this, that I wanted to use this child to control you.”

“Now you see who’s only alive today because of him.”

I didn’t want to leave any room for doubt, so I took out my phone and made a call.

“You can come in now.”

Less than ten minutes later, the dining room door was pushed open.

An elderly man with graying hair walked in.

“Hello, everyone.” He nodded to the room. “I am the retired Chief of Hepatobiliary Surgery for the Marino Medical Group.”

“Three years ago, I was the lead surgeon for Mr. Zane’s living-donor liver transplant.”

He took the surgical records from that year out of his briefcase, along with imaging files and pre- and post-operative reports, and placed them on the table.

“The donor was a male infant, one year and three months old. The recipient was Mr. Zane Marino.”

The old doctor pointed to the scans, his tone calm.

“This is the chart of Mr. Zane’s liver function recovery after surgery. This is the child’s post-operative imaging.”

“The child recovered very well. The entire procedure was approved by the hospital and fully documented.”

When he finished, he looked up at Zane and sighed softly.

“Mr. Zane, this child saved your life.”

“I remember, when you were discharged, I told you to take good care of this mother and son.”
