Reborn To Reject My Regretful Mate For The King Chapter 02
I opened the door.
Julian stood there, holding a gift box.
Inside was a floor-length dress in dusty rose.
“It’s for you,” he said, smiling.
I didn’t take it.
“Thank you, but I don’t like pink.”
In my last life, Julian knew perfectly well that my favorite color was teal.
My scarves, my earrings, my phone case—even the mug I used at the clinic—were all shades of it.
His smile faltered.
“I actually picked out two. One teal, one dusty rose. But Evelyn chose the teal one first…”
I understood.
Once again, I was being handed someone else’s leftovers.
I gave a bitter, self-deprecating smile and started to close the door.
Julian shot a hand out to block it.
“Are you angry?”
“Adrian told me about the dream. Evelyn’s fate was so tragic. We have a chance to give her a better life this time around. Isn’t that what you want, too?”
“You’re sisters. You’re not really going to begrudge her a dress, are you?”
Looking at his face—so much younger than it had been at the end—I suddenly remembered our wedding night.
Neither Adrian nor Evelyn had come.
That night, I cried in front of Julian for the first time.
I told him how, when I was little, I’d fallen in love with a wooden hairpin and begged Adrian to carve one just for me.
Adrian had agreed.
But on my birthday, I found that same hairpin lying on Evelyn’s pillow.
He told me money was tight and that sisters should learn to share.
Later, I borrowed a coat Adrian had bought for Evelyn to wear on a date with Julian.
When I got home, Adrian canceled my bank card on the spot.
“Didn’t I buy you clothes? Why are you stealing Evelyn’s things?”
“I don’t want to share what’s mine,” I’d told Julian that night.
“If a gift has to be shared, I’d rather not have it at all.”
I had always thought he understood.
Apparently, he was no different from Adrian.
“Don’t buy two gifts anymore,” I said.
“Why not?”
I looked him straight in the eye.
“Because I’m not marrying you, Julian.”
He went still.
I tried to close the door again. Again, his arm blocked the way.
“Don’t say that just because you’re angry. Adrian just confirmed that our engagement is still on.”
I understood immediately.
Adrian knew Julian had fought him in our last life, so this time, he’d hidden the results of the draw.
I was about to tell him the truth when Evelyn’s personal assistant rushed in.
“Julian, Adrian and Evelyn are waiting for you in the study. They said they have something important to discuss.”
Julian shoved the gift box into my arms.
“Camille, don’t worry. No matter how I help Evelyn, after we’re married, you’ll still be the one I truly love.”
Then he hurried away.
I set the dress box on the table and zipped my suitcase closed.
While they were all in the study, I dragged it toward the back door.
I had just opened it when a hand shot out to stop me.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
