Reborn To Reject My Regretful Mate For The King Chapter 08
But Gale’s coat was worn at the seams, and his convoy was only five men strong. They looked like a group that had been on the run for a long time.
“I know you’re Camille Parker of Greymoor Pack,” he said, “and I know you didn’t come here by choice.”
He held out a hand to me.
“I can let you go right now.”
“But this area is crawling with rogues, and there are people looking for my vehicle. Would you be willing to leave with me first?”
His tone was gentle, but the four guards behind him never relaxed.
I didn’t believe for a second that I could actually refuse.
“All right.”
I placed my hand in his.
“I’ll go with you.”
Gale didn’t lead me back to the SUV.
His vehicle was armored, with specially treated windows and armed escorts in front and behind.
Once I was seated, he poured me a glass of water himself.
His movements, his bearing—nothing about him felt like a businessman.
The convoy drove deep into the forest. Finally, I had to ask, “Who are you?”
Gale’s hand froze in midair.
A crushing, cold pressure suddenly filled the car.
His wolf had awakened.
I immediately changed my approach. “Adrian sent me here because I had nowhere else to go.”
“You took me from him. I have a healer’s training, and I can compound medicines. If you need something from me, just say so.”
“I just want to know why you chose me.”
Gale studied me, his expression serious.
Dusk melted into night outside the window before he finally spoke.
“You’re smart.”
“But people who are too smart don’t usually live long around me.”
Without warning, he took my hand and pressed my palm against his knee.
Even through the heavy fabric, I could feel the horribly misaligned bones. The moment my wolf sensed the residual silver poisoning, it recoiled.
“Camille, I’m giving you two months.”
“Do everything you can to heal my legs.”
“If you succeed, I’ll give you more than you could ever want—and your freedom.”
