He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 17

Tidewatch was a coastal territory, rainy year-round, separated from Highridge by two trade borders.

The packs here didn’t use ancient bloodlines to determine a person’s worth. As long as someone passed a territorial review and agreed to obey border laws, even an outsider could apply to live and work here.

After the Tidewatch Registry confirmed my claim cancellation, they issued me an independent identity record.

That thin sheet of paper gave me more peace than the Luna crest I had worn for six years ever had.

It said only one thing:

Evelyn Hart.

Not Lucian’s Luna. Not Noah and Iris’s mother. Not a living guarantee between two bloodline alliances.

Just me.

On my first night at the border, the Tidewatch registrar didn’t give me special treatment just because I had once been a Luna. He checked the claim cancellation, my private property records, and the injury attachments, then asked if Highridge was tracking me and whether I needed my residence record hidden.

I said yes.

For a moment, I felt a flicker of shame. For six years, I had been taught that a Luna should protect her Alpha’s dignity, and that any wariness toward one’s mate was a public humiliation.
