He Signed My Freedom Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 31

Vivian’s face changed instantly.

“Who do you think you’re talking to? I’m going to be Highridge’s new Luna. Your father is already tired of that useless mother of yours. Raise your voice at me again and I’ll make you understand that even an Alpha heir must obey the Luna.”

The two children huddled together in fear.

I sat staring at the screen for a long time.

There was no satisfaction in seeing revenge done.

And no immediate urge to run back and protect them, either.

I only asked the Tidewatch Registry to confirm that Noah and Iris were still under the legal protection of Highridge’s guard force. If Vivian overstepped again, the guards were required to intervene.

That was all I was willing to do.

I did not message Lucian directly. A Registry officer explained that if I intervened privately as their mother, Highridge might use it to argue that I was still carrying out Luna family duties and seek restoration of my authority once more.

So I submitted facts only: the guard footage of her threats, the records showing the children repeatedly absent from training, and the evidence that Vivian, who had no guardianship rights, was controlling their food and movement.

At the end of the report was a box asking whether I was willing to return to Highridge immediately to care for the children.

I paused for a long time before checking no.

The moment my finger came down, maternal instinct nearly tore me in half. Ember remembered their scent, the way both pups used to curl up sleeping in my arms. But she also remembered their smiles as poison was forced down my throat.

Protecting children did not mean the person they had harmed had to place herself back in danger. Highridge had an Alpha, guards, Healers, and a full protection system. In the past, everyone pushed the responsibility onto me simply because my sacrifice was the most convenient option.

I would not hand my life back over just because they were finally tasting what it felt like to be disregarded.
