My Family Stole My Run I Returned A Leader Chapter 18

I shut off the screen and didn’t look back.
The next morning, just as I entered the lab, Lena handed me a visitor registration form.
“Bella arrived early.”
“And the people from last night came with her.”
I glanced over the form.
In the family section, my father had listed four names, and in the remarks, he had requested that I personally handle Bella’s case.
The project director had already denied the request below.
“Proceed according to recusal protocol.”
I handed the form back to Lena.
“She’s the applicant. Give her a standard evaluation. The others aren’t project members, so they don’t get access to the observation area.”
“Understood.”
We walked toward the conference room together.
As we passed the hallway, I saw Bella sitting in the waiting area.
Three years apart, and she was much thinner.
The sapphire necklace in its gold setting still hung around her neck, a vivid blue against her white sweater.
My mother sat beside her, gripping her hand tightly.
The moment she saw me, my mother jumped to her feet.
“Paloma, please, you have to save Bella.”
“She had several episodes during her exchange program, and they don’t dare let her stay in shared housing anymore.”
