My Family Stole My Run I Returned A Leader Chapter 19
“Only your project can help her now.”
I didn’t stop walking.
The project director came from the other side of the hall and blocked her path.
“Mrs. Lombardi, Paloma has recused herself according to procedure.”
“Another treatment team will complete the evaluation.”
My father’s expression darkened.
“She understands Bella better than anyone.”
“What is there to recuse between sisters?”
“Besides, this project includes her research. She can’t just take the credit and refuse the responsibility.”
I stopped and turned around.
“My responsibilities are outlined in the project rules.”
“There is no clause that creates a special channel for blood relatives.”
Bella’s eyes reddened instantly.
“Paloma, you still hate me, don’t you?”
“Because of the trip. Because of Stefan.”
“So even if I really can’t control my wolf, you still won’t help me.”
Her voice wasn’t loud.
But everyone in the waiting area heard it.
In the past, whenever she spoke like that, everyone would look at me, waiting for me to give in.
This time, no one did.
A front desk staff member placed an evaluation information sheet in front of her.
“Whether to continue with the application is your decision.”
“The project will not change its order or priority because of your relationship with any of our researchers.”
Bella stared at the sheet, tears clinging to her lashes.
She didn’t get the comfort she wanted, and in the end, she could only slowly pick up the pen.
Just then, two registrars from neutral territory walked into the lobby.
One of them confirmed my identity.
“Ms. Paloma Lombardi.”
“Last night, the Cedar Ridge pack submitted a family affiliation objection.”
“The applicant claims your transfer years ago was made under emotional distress and requests restoration of family authority in emergency medical matters.”
My father avoided my eyes.
Clearly, he had filed the petition.
The registrar handed the notice to me.
“The hearing is scheduled for the day after tomorrow.”
“Until a ruling is issued, your Morningwatch membership and all associated rights remain fully in effect.”
I took the file and signed on the receipt line.
At last, my father spoke.
“Paloma, we’re only afraid you’ll keep making the wrong decisions.”
“Bella needs you now. The family needs you, too.”
I capped my pen.
“Then let the registry decide.”
