After Six Years The Alpha Begs For My Return Chapter 07

“Avery. I have a job for you. Keep the books for Tidewatch’s Paris trade office. It’s clean, and it’s legal.”

I was so broke I was about to be evicted. I stared at the card for three seconds, then nodded.

Later, I learned he’d never actually needed another bookkeeper.

Tidewatch’s cross-border trade was complex, and he was surrounded by capable people. The line of accountants who handled his books and territorial contracts stretched from the dock offices all the way to the pack arbitration court. Someone like me, who had switched careers midstream, shouldn’t have even been considered.

He gave me the job because he had recognized me. The Beaumonts and the Calloways had old ties, and he remembered them better than I did.

He also knew that a werewolf who had left her birth pack needed legal sponsorship to live in foreign territory. The job came with a Tidewatch temporary residency permit, so I wouldn’t be treated like a rogue without a pack.

Later, I helped him solve a financial crisis. I stayed up for three days and nights, digging evidence of embezzlement out of three sets of falsified trade accounts.

When it was over, he leaned against the window, smoking, and watched me for a long time before saying, “If you ever need my help, just ask.”

I had smiled and dismissed it.

I never expected that after the call I made last night, he would fly back the very next day.

“You were just saying,” he repeated now, “that you were going to vow yourself to my mate?”
