After Six Years The Alpha Begs For My Return Chapter 35

“All settled?”

“All settled.”

I fell asleep on the way back, leaning against the passenger-side window.

In my dream, I was ten years old again, by the river in summer. The water was murky, wave after wave crashing over me. I’d swallowed so much of it I couldn’t even cry out, my body sinking, sinking.

My wolf hadn’t awakened yet. I was just a child, terrified and helpless.

Then a pair of hands reached down through the water, the web of one thumb marked by a wound that had not yet healed. They grabbed my wrist and dragged me back into the air.

I jerked awake. The van was parked outside the hospital.

“We’re here,” Reese said.

I rubbed my eyes and saw a crowd gathered at the entrance. Several unmarked black vans were parked there, deep-blue Tidewatch passes visible on their windshields.

Reese frowned and unbuckled his seatbelt. “Wait here. I’ll see what’s going on.”

He got out and walked toward the group.

At its center stood an old man in a long, dark gray coat, his hair completely white, an ebony cane in hand, his back ramrod straight.

When he saw Reese approach, he tapped the cane against the ground once. It wasn’t a hard sound, but it carried weight.

It was Reese’s grandfather, the former Alpha of the Tidewatch pack.
