The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 03

The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 03

I carried the little creature back to my room.

I placed her in the padded basket I had prepared.

The basket sat right beside my bed.

Young contract guardians had to stay close to their masters, even while sleeping.

It was the only way for the master’s life force to continuously infuse the guardian. Otherwise, their powers might reject each other as the guardian matured.

I stared at her for a long while but still couldn’t tell what species she was.

Her fur was white, soft, and curly, almost like wool. But her paws looked like a cat’s.

I touched her head.

No horns.

So probably not a sheep.

But her long, fine limbs were too stiff to be feline.

Maybe Grandmother was right. Maybe she really was a mixed-blood.

If that was true, then I would have to accept it.

Mixed-blood guardians usually had a low ceiling for their potential. Even if I fed her all the rare materials in the world, her peak power might not even reach their starting point.

But that didn’t matter to me anymore.

No matter how powerful a guardian was, if they refused to fight for you, they were no different from a stone on the roadside.

Especially if they turned on you.

The stronger they grew, the deeper the bite.

I didn’t want to go through that again.

In this life, I would raise her.

Where she fell short, I would make up the difference.
