The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 06
After that, I was almost always holding her.
She was a tiny thing curled in my arms, constantly drinking in my life force.
No matter how much I fed her, it was never enough.
I wanted to set aside some time to meditate and replenish my own reserves.
But she wouldn’t let me go.
“I told you I eat a lot. You believe me now, don’t you?”
I lay weakly in bed and turned my head to look at her.
“You’re doing this on purpose.”
She paused.
“…I’m not.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
I turned my head back and closed my eyes.
She tugged at the bedsheet.
“I really do eat a lot. Do you regret it?”
“Regret what?”
“We haven’t formed a contract. If I drain you dry right now, you’ll die for nothing. You won’t get a thing out of this.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“If I wanted something from you, I wouldn’t have chosen you in the first place.”
“…Then you really are an idiot. What do you want?”
“Nothing.”
Softly, I said, “I just want to try one more time.”
“Try what?”
“Just think of me as an idiot.”
“…”
She fell quiet.
The last of my life force was nearly gone.
The feeling of death coiled around me.
My heartbeat weakened.
My consciousness began to scatter.
Then, suddenly, a sharp pain tore through my chest.
I sucked in a breath and my eyes flew open.
At some point, she had pulled open my clothes, her teeth sunk into the flesh over my heart.
She was taking blood from my heart.
My whole body trembled. My fingers clenched the bedsheet.
Through my blurred vision, the little girl’s body lengthened, stretching until she grew into a tall, adult woman.
White hair spilled down, and a dark light pulsed in her violet eyes.
She hovered over me, her teeth still buried in my chest.
As she drank my heart’s blood, my body grew cold.
I parted my lips. My voice was so faint it was almost inaudible.
“Is it… good?”
She lifted her head.
I watched as she tilted her chin up, touched her blood-smeared fingertips to her own forehead, and drew the contract mark there.
Then she drew another over my chest.
She bent down and pressed her forehead to mine.
At that instant, a powerful bond snapped into place between us.
It felt as if my heart had been ripped from my chest, dragging all the channels of my power with it, binding them inextricably to her.
The moment the contract was completed, an enormous flood of power poured back into my body.
It was too violent.
I couldn’t withstand it.
My consciousness shattered on impact.
