The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 13
The next second, she pressed her face to my neck and greedily began drinking my life force.
My legs went weak.
“Let me get out first…” I said, my voice faint.
Still holding me, she made one light leap and cleared the pool.
The heavy water that trapped countless souls was like air to her. It couldn’t hold her at all.
She stood at the pool’s edge, water dripping from her clothes, completely indifferent—focused only on feeding.
I looked at her, truly helpless.
“It was only half an hour. You’re this hungry?”
“Of course. We signed a heartbond. Now, only your life force can truly satisfy me. It also makes me hungrier than before.”
“…Then what did you eat before our contract?”
“Anything.”
“On the day of the selection, why were you lying at the end of the line, looking like you were about to die?”
“I was too hungry to move. Your family caught me and dragged me there to make up the numbers.”
“If you eat anything, how could you have been starving that badly?”
“I was just hungry.”
“…”
I had only been away from her for half an hour, and she was already feeding like a mad thing. She drained me to the dregs in seconds.
“Hold back a little. Don’t actually kill me…”
She knew she couldn’t keep feeding.
But she was still hungry.
So she bit down on my neck.
“How about I just eat a part of you… Meredith, what do you think?”
“That won’t work… don’t do anything stupid.”
“But I’m so hungry. I’m going crazy.”
Even her violet eyes were tinged with red.
I froze.
“Why are you this hungry?”
“I don’t know. If I go half an hour without your life force, I can barely stand it.”
She seized a handful of her own white hair.
“No, Meredith. You can’t stay away from me this long. It hurts too much. You need to find another way to get stronger.”
I said nothing.
No one had warned me before I started raising her that she would be this much trouble.
