The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 28

But when I looked up, it wasn’t rain.

The Mother of the Snake-vines had been scared into crying.

…She looked a little pitiful.

I cleared my throat softly.

“She’s not completely useless. There are quite a few things here I can use.”

“Such as?”

Paloma sounded very serious.

After a pause, I said, “There are probably potions in those spatial bags.”

“Really?”

She casually picked up one of the bags and opened it.

The Mother of the Snake-vines leaned her head forward nervously.

Inside, sure enough, were potions.

I hurried to explain. “Look, there are lots of life force restoration potions in here. And the impurities are very low. They’re at least level five, probably made by a high-level alchemist. They’re valuable and very useful.”

Paloma said nothing.

She uncorked one and poured it straight into my mouth.

The moment it went down, the tiny thread of life force inside me surged like a tidal wave.

Paloma pulled me close and feasted greedily.

Once she was done, she glanced at the spatial bag, tied it shut, and tucked it into her clothes.

“Not bad. It really is useful. I’m taking it.”

I said nothing.

The Mother of the Snake-vines looked almost overcome with gratitude.

Summoning her courage, she stretched out a few thin vines again and gently pushed the remaining spatial bags toward me.

I checked them one by one.

“This bag has protective artifacts. I can use those.”

“This one has potions, too. But the quality is average and there are too many impurities. I can’t drink them.”

“This one… why is it full of clothes? And just ordinary clothes, not mage robes. Why would anyone bring this many clothes in here?”

“This one… also has potions. Wait, no.”

I sniffed more carefully, and my face changed.

“Don’t take this one.”

Paloma immediately noticed something was wrong.

“Why not?”

“The potions in here aren’t for a proper use. I can’t drink them.”

“What kind of improper use?”

“They can’t restore life force, can’t expand circuits, and can’t increase power.”

“But from the look of it, its grade isn’t any lower than the last bag.”

“It was made by a high-level alchemist, but… it isn’t for that kind of use.”

“Why would a high-level alchemist make useless medicine? And if it’s useless, why would someone carry it around?”

Holding that bag, she looked at me with a half-smile.

“What’s in it, exactly? If you don’t tell me, I’ll feed it to you and find out.”

My face instantly heated.

I knew exactly what it was.

And I knew Paloma was perfectly capable of doing that.

I could only lower my voice and say, “…It’s an aphrodisiac.”

“What?”

“It’s… medicine used to induce a heat.”

“Oh.”

She lost interest at once.

And casually tossed the bag aside.

Only then did I let out a long breath of relief.
