The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 29

The Fourth Life She Guarded Me Chapter 29

The Mother of the Snake-vines had finally saved her own life.

She practically saw us off in tears of gratitude, then immediately burrowed back underground and never showed herself again.

We followed the path Paloma had carved on her way here.

The farther we walked, the more shaken I became.

A deep trench ran through the ground, as if some giant had plowed straight across the land.

Nothing remained anywhere the trench passed.

Slowly, I turned to look at Paloma.

“Paloma… what exactly are you…”

What kind of guardian, at what level, could move through the Threshold like this?

There were terrifying numbers of high-level magical beasts here.

And now they were all gone.

Had she eaten them all?

I stared at her in shock.

Her expression remained calm.

“What, you don’t recognize me anymore?”

“You’re definitely not some ordinary mixed-blood.”

“When did I ever say I was a mixed-blood?”

“Then what are you?”

She pressed her lips together.

“I can’t say right now.”

“Why not?”

“I’m afraid I’ll scare you.”

“I’m already scared.”

“With guts this small, what are you doing being a mage?”

“Stop mocking me. Do you have any idea how terrifying what you’ve done is?”
