From A Humiliating Bet To The Boss He Can’t Have Chapter 04

Grant grabbed his phone and called my number.

The call went straight to voicemail.

He called three times in a row, then snatched his assistant’s phone and dialed again. Same result.

“She blocked you,” his assistant said quietly. “All of you.”

Forty minutes later, the last flight back to Boston took off.

After having someone check the passenger list, the assistant shook his head.

“Ms. Ellis wasn’t on it.”

The private room fell completely silent.

The people who had been egging him on moments before all looked away. Sloane’s expression froze for a few seconds before she let out a cold laugh.

“She’ll stay in Chicago for a few days at most. No Beacon Hill house, no one arranging her life for her—she’ll be back crying before long.”

Grant shot to his feet.

“Where are you going?” Sloane demanded.

“To Chicago.”

She grabbed his arm. “If you go after her now, you’re giving her exactly what she wants. She did all this to wait for you to lower yourself first.”

Grant shook her off and, for the first time, snapped at her.

“What if she wasn’t waiting for me at all?”

Sloane was struck speechless.

Grant had already snatched his coat and charged out of the club without looking back.

When he got to Logan Airport, he had his assistant book the earliest flight to Chicago.

Outside the VIP lounge, the giant departure screen kept updating. Planes flew from Boston to city after city, and standing there, he suddenly felt that one of them was carrying me toward a world he would never be able to reach again.

His assistant hurried over and handed him a phone.

“I got in touch with the property manager for Ms. Ellis’s new apartment. She’s already moved in, and it’s not a short-term rental. She signed a formal one-year lease.”
