From A Humiliating Bet To The Boss He Can’t Have Chapter 22

This time, I pushed the file my lawyer had assembled across the table.

“No need to postpone.”

The first page was the prenuptial agreement I never signed.

The second was the uncashed check for one hundred thousand dollars.

After that came the Excel ledger, the cashier’s check for $28,614.37, the car keys, and the itemized list of returned gifts.

Then came the emails showing I had given up the Chicago position twice, along with Grant’s line:

[If you go to Chicago, this is where we end.]

Only after that did the betting pool records appear, along with the wedding-planning emails Sloane had sent while impersonating me.

The evidence was arranged in the order things had happened. I didn’t need to explain a single word.

The PR director turned the last page and looked up at me.

“What are you planning to do?”

“The launch goes ahead as scheduled.”

“My lawyer can release the timeline for the personal matter. I won’t do interviews, and I won’t argue with her online.”

“But she’s saying your name on the livestream.”

I closed the file.

“She wants to turn this into a betting game again.”

“She’s betting on whether I’ll lose my job, and whether I’ll settle with her privately to protect my reputation.”

I stood up.

“I’m not placing a bet.”

Ten minutes before the launch event began, Grant’s lawyer replied.

He was willing to confirm that all the records were authentic, and he was willing to issue a public apology.

But there was one condition.

He wanted to see me first.

I told my lawyer to send one sentence back, unchanged.

[The facts do not require conditions.]
