From A Humiliating Bet To The Boss He Can’t Have Chapter 23

When Grant received the reply, he was sitting in a hotel room in Chicago.

The black gift box sat on the table.

Inside was still that pair of cuff links engraved with the three of our names.

For the past two years, every time he came to Chicago, he had brought them with him.

And not once had he managed to give them to me.

His lawyer set the documents down in front of him.

“Ms. Ellis will not meet with you.”

“If you refuse to confirm the records, the existing materials are still enough to establish the main facts. The public will simply continue asking why, as one of the central parties, you have remained silent.”

Grant asked quietly, “Did she say anything else?”

“No.”

“What about Lily?”

“Miss Lily sent the screenshots she saved directly to Ms. Ellis’s lawyer. She specifically requested that they not be passed through you.”

Grant’s fingers clenched.

That phrase—not through you—humiliated him more than any accusation.

In the past, he had always treated Lily as his most effective excuse.

When he needed me to stay, he said Lily couldn’t do without her.

When he wanted me to come back, he said not to let adult problems affect the child.
