You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 04
I coughed up several mouthfuls of water and lifted my head. I saw the person in front of me clearly then.
It was Detective Miller.
Her chest was heaving. She had clearly run over.
“I saw the whole thing.”
“This girl jumped into the water to save someone, and the first thing you do is accuse her of pushing them in.”
“Do you people have any idea how to be parents?”
My father frowned. “Who are you? What right do you have to interfere in our family’s business?”
The detective flashed her badge.
“I’m Detective Miller, the lead detective on this child’s kidnapping case.”
They all froze.
Sofia’s face went white, and she immediately avoided Miller’s gaze.
My father’s frown deepened. “What are you talking about? How could she have been kidnapped?”
Miller lifted my left arm.
“She was taken and held for twelve hours. Her left hand was broken! And you really didn’t know any of that?”
My mother’s eyes widened.
Miller wiped the water from her face, her voice shaking with rage.
“No wonder this child told me she didn’t have a home.”
“If I had parents like you, I’d leave in a heartbeat, too.”
My mother covered her mouth. “Then the kidnapping victim… in the news a few days ago… was…”
She looked at me, panic flooding her eyes.
“Amaris, that wasn’t you, was it?”
I turned my face away and didn’t answer.
She burst into tears.
