You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 05

“My baby, was it really you? For twelve whole hours?”

My father frowned, too. “If that’s true, why didn’t you say anything?”

I gripped the hem of my soaked clothes and answered calmly, “Because you never let me finish.”

“But now that you’re willing to listen, I’ll make it clear.”

“I didn’t push Sofia into the water.”

A flicker of unease crossed my parents’ and Ronan’s faces.

Sofia immediately piped up, “Amaris, did you misunderstand? I never said you pushed me.”

I held her gaze, refusing to look away.

She had always been like this.

She never accused me directly. She just made things vague enough for everyone else to put the blame on me.

The people who had looked uneasy a second ago quickly relaxed.

Instead, they started trying to placate me.

“Amaris, we were just worried. Don’t take your anger out on Sofia.”

“That’s right. We were afraid you’d actually done something like that. That’s why we were so upset.”

Miller’s face flushed with rage. I quickly put a hand on her arm, not wanting her to fight my battles for me anymore.

Ronan seized the chance to smooth things over. “All right. We’re all family. Let’s just drop it.”

My mother immediately chimed in. “Yes, Amaris, come home with us.”

“I’ll make you lasagna. Don’t you love my lasagna the most?”

As she spoke, she reached out to take my hand.

I stepped back.

“No, Mrs. Santoro. Let’s settle our accounts, and then we can go our separate ways.”
