You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 18
The family business temporarily fell into Ronan’s hands.
He seemed badly shaken and started sending large sums of money to my Zelle account.
At first, I returned every transfer.
Later, I stopped bothering and just let the money sit in the account, untouched.
On the day I left for school, Leo came to see me off.
He grabbed my wrist, looking as if he’d made a momentous decision.
“You… wait for me for one year, okay?”
“Next year, I’ll take the SAT and get into the same university as you.”
“For this year, just… don’t date anyone yet, okay?”
I froze for a moment, then smiled.
“All right. On the condition that you actually get in.”
His eyes brightened, and he nodded eagerly.
“Just you wait.”
I thought he was just being dramatic.
To keep him motivated, I kept teasing him about it afterward.
But the next year, I really did see him at freshman registration.
Leo had grown taller.
I had to tilt my head up slightly to meet his eyes.
The late-summer wind lifted the hair from his forehead. He looked more grown-up than before.
He looked at me, the corners of his mouth lifting into a smile.
“You have to keep your word, Amaris.”
I was about to answer when my phone chimed.
Ronan had sent another Zelle transfer.
The note read:
Mom and Dad asked me to ask if you’d be willing to come home after graduation.
