You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 25
My father rushed onto the stage and tried to wrestle the microphone from her.
Sofia clutched it tightly, refusing to let go.
“The only reason you want Amaris back now is because the company is about to collapse, isn’t it?”
“If she were still that girl picking up coins in the park, would you be here begging her to come back?”
“We truly regret it!”
My mother shouted through her tears.
“Do you have any idea what it was like for us in prison? Do you know how much we missed her?”
Listening to them argue, I suddenly remembered standing in front of them like this years ago, telling them over and over that Sofia was lying.
No one believed me then.
Now, they had finally started listening to one another.
But every word they said was just to push the blame onto someone else.
The reporters’ cameras kept rolling.
Ronan was the first to react, shouting at the staff, “Cut the livestream!”
“It’s too late.”
Leo stood beside the control console and lifted his chin.
“This is a public event. It’s not just your own account that’s streaming.”
Ronan shouted at him, “This is Santoro family business!”
Leo looked at him coldly.
“She hasn’t been part of your family for a long time.”
I placed the car key back on the stage and turned to leave.
But Sofia suddenly ran after me and grabbed my arm.
“Amaris, are you satisfied now?”
“I went to prison. I lost my college admission. Now they don’t want me, either. What else do you want?”
I lowered my gaze to her hand on my arm.
She let go as if she’d been burned.
“I didn’t ask you to come here,” I said. “And I didn’t make you say any of that.”
“But you won!”
“This isn’t a competition.”
I looked at her.
“What you did had consequences. Those consequences just didn’t disappear the way you wanted them to.”
I didn’t give her another thought. I walked away.
