You Told Me To Walk So I Walked Right Out Of Your Lives Chapter 29

I looked at her.

“What did I have?”

Her mouth opened, but no words came out.

I raised my left hand.

“I had a hand that still hurts, twelve hours of memories that make me afraid to turn off the lights, and a family who handed me over to traffickers in exchange for you.”

Sofia took a step back.

“But in the end, they still chose you. Now they only want you. They don’t care about me at all.”

“That’s between you and them.”

“Just help me this once.”

She suddenly reached for me.

“You just have to tell them you don’t blame me, and they’ll let me come back.”

“Ronan will give me money, too. Aren’t you supposed to be the kind one? You even saved me when I fell in the lake.”

So this was why she’d asked me here.

“I saved you because you were about to die.”

I shook her hand off me.

“Now, you just have to live with what you’ve done.”

Her face twisted.

“Aren’t you afraid I’ll really push you in?”

Before I could answer, the sound of a car door closing came from behind me.

Miller was walking over.

Sofia immediately backed away.

“I was just talking!”

I looked at the phone she was still holding up.

“The livestream is still on.”

Sofia lowered her head.

On the screen, every word she had just said was broadcast for all to see.

She frantically ended the stream, turned, and ran.

This time, no one chased her.

Miller walked to my side.

“Are you okay?”

I looked out at the lake.

The water was calm.

“I used to dream I was still in there, with no one on the shore.”

“And now?”

I turned to look at her.

“Now I know I just need to swim to shore myself.”
