He Tested Me With Prenup I Left Him With Regret Chapter 03
Grant stared at the signature on the last page of the lease for a long time without moving.
Chicago. One year. Deposit paid.
Celeste reached for the document, but Grant held it down.
“It could still be fake,” she said with a curl of her lip. “And even if it’s real, she could back out and eat the penalty. She just wants to force you to chase her to the airport.”
Several others immediately chimed in.
“There’s no way she can really leave Lucy.”
“She’s lived here for four years. Just walk away? Who believes that?”
Grant didn’t respond. He just checked his phone.
Maya’s flight had been in the air for two hours.
A new betting round opened in “Second Wife Playbook.” Some people wagered Maya would turn back during her layover. Others bet that once she landed, she’d send word that she was safe.
Celeste put down ten thousand dollars herself.
“She’ll contact Grant before tonight.”
Grant set his phone facedown on the table and lifted his drink.
“Then we wait.”
But over the next three hours, that drink barely moved.
Every few minutes, he picked up his phone.
No missed calls.
No text messages.
Not even an email.
At one in the morning, the flight status updated: Arrived in Detroit. Awaiting connecting flight.
Celeste quickly found another flight and, smiling, turned the screen toward Grant.
In forty minutes, there was one heading back to Charleston.
Grant’s finger hovered over Maya’s number.
Celeste said with complete certainty, “She’s waiting for your call right now, Grant. She’s leaving the last move up to you.”
