He Tested Me With Prenup I Left Him With Regret Chapter 04

Grant pressed call.

A mechanical voice informed him the number was no longer in service.

He took his assistant’s phone and dialed again.

Same result.

Forty minutes later, the return flight to Charleston departed. Through an internal contact at the airline, his assistant got the passenger list. Maya Bennett was not on it.

The room went completely quiet.

Someone forced a laugh. “Maybe she couldn’t get a ticket.”

Celeste’s face stiffened, then she gave a cold laugh. “She has no family in Chicago and no one waiting for her there. Give it three days, tops, and she’ll come back crying.”

Grant suddenly stood up.

“Where are you going?” Celeste demanded.

“The airport.”

“If you chase after her now, you’re giving her exactly what she wants!”

Grant stopped. For the first time, he didn’t just stay silent and let her lead.

“What if she isn’t waiting for me at all?”

Celeste choked on the question, then clenched her jaw. “Then she’s still betting that you’ll come after her.”

“So no matter what she does, to you it’s all an act. Is that it?”

“It is an act!”

Grant looked at her for a few seconds, picked up the lease from the table, and walked out.

By the time he got to the airport, Maya’s connecting flight to Chicago had already taken off.

The departures screen in the terminal kept scrolling, the word CHICAGO flashing before his eyes. Only then did it truly hit him that the plane was carrying Maya out of his life.

Not as a tantrum.

Not as a threat.

And not while waiting for him to come crawling back.

His assistant hurried over, clutching a phone.

“The admissions office wrote back. Miss Bennett didn’t just accept the offer—she already completed her online registration. She confirmed she’ll attend new student orientation next week.”
