He Tested Me With Prenup I Left Him With Regret Chapter 20
Explaining that Celeste was gone.
Explaining that no one in the family dared bring up the betting game anymore.
Explaining how deeply he regretted everything.
He had believed that someday, Maya would be willing to read them.
But those words had never even entered her life.
At the hearing, Grant saw the box of letters for the first time.
It sat on the evidence table, still sealed with tape.
His attorney argued, “Mr. Holloway had no malicious intent, nor did he ever demand that Miss Bennett respond.”
The judge looked at Grant.
“Did you receive a formal notice instructing you to cease all contact?”
Grant was silent for a few seconds.
“Yes.”
“And after receiving that notice, were these letters sent by you?”
“Yes.”
“Did you also remain outside her apartment building for a week?”
Grant’s expression changed.
That had happened.
Two years ago.
He was silent for a long time.
“Yes.”
The judge asked, “If the other party made her refusal clear, why did you continue?”
Grant looked at me.
“I just wanted her to know I would wait.”
I finally spoke.
“But I never asked you to wait.”
His lips moved.
“Grant, your idea of waiting was leaving your regret at my door and forcing me to see it every day.”
I pointed to the box.
“I said no. I said it two years ago.”
The courtroom went quiet.
In the end, the restraining order was granted.
For the next two years, Grant was prohibited from approaching me, sending me anything, or using friends or relatives to pass along messages.
When the judge finished reading the order, Grant didn’t argue.
When I walked out of the courthouse, it was the first time I didn’t have to check over my shoulder to see if he was following.
But that very afternoon, his friend Colton posted a photo on social media of the courthouse entrance.
The caption contained only one sentence:
[After taking money from the Holloway family, she drags a widowed single father who still mourns his wife into court. Some people turn innocence into a business.]
